Throughout the 1800s, Vinton was known at different times as Fremont and also Northport. But by the time the first railroad train arrived in 1869, it had been legally designated as Vinton and was serving as the Benton County seat. Many things have changed since that time, but it is undeniably the arrival of the first train that helped prosper Vinton.
