Unlimited Possibilities
Creativity Lives in Vinton

Jon Clingman, Board President

Webster defines “Create” To make or produce (something): to cause (something new) to exist or to cause (a particular situation) to exist.

Recently, Nathan Hesson and I had the opportunity to visit many of the businesses in our industrial park. Along the way we saw examples of creativity everywhere. We saw masterful carpentry at Custom Millworks and top quality metal fabrication at Ideal Industries. We saw creative promotion at I.M.C.A. where they have not only made the sport of auto racing affordable to more people, but they have organized and nurtured that sport for more than a generation. I have been here long enough to remember when a group of local farmers formed a coop to help produce and promote their value-added soy and other products. Today that creative energy has landed them with Kerry Foods which helps to feed over 140 countries worldwide. Monkeytown, Kurt’s Enterprises, Twin City Concrete and Remmington Seed also provide creative solutions through their products and services every day.

These are just some of the businesses that call Vinton home but serve a much larger market.

Vinton is also still fortunate to host many service and retail businesses. There are countless creative solutions offered daily at these businesses. Just for fun I decided to piggy back onto one of David Letterman’s hallmark creative skits and create our own:

TOP TEN BENEFITS OF CREATIVE TALENT.

  1. Enhanced Knowledge
  2. Better health
  • Better financial security
  • A safer home
  • A healthier life style
  • A safer car
  • An inspiration
  • An awareness of a need worthy of your help!
  • Enhanced satisfaction on the purchase of just about anything and
  • Above all, an enhanced sense of trust that benefits both our businesses and our consumers.

Creativity is both visible and invisible in Vinton, Iowa. We have worked hard to enhance the appearance of Vinton through chain saw carvings, continued enhancements to our parks, murals and numerous inspiring improvements to our buildings both in the business districts as well as our homes.

Vinton is located right in the middle of what Eastern Iowa calls the Creative Corridor. Many times we fail to recognize creativity and think that it is a talent found only in a few. I hope I have offered some evidence today that demonstrates that creativity lives in us all.

Sincerely,

Jon R. Clingman
