What’s In Your Wallet (Backyard)

When it’s time to do your shopping what is your standard practice? Do you automatically go north or south of Vinton to shop the chain stores? If so, then stop and consider what might be available local.

How many times have you been asked already if you’re ready for Christmas? Yes, I said Christmas, not the holidays. Well if you are like me, the answer is easy – “no”. I’m not terrible a lot of the time. I’m down to stocking stuffers on the 24th. This year may not be different, but I believe it will be less stressful. I’m going to try and do most, if not all my shopping local. Vinton has such an outstanding variety of merchants from clothing and jewelry to furniture and appliances, sporting goods, hunting gear, you name it and it’s only 5 minutes from home and even local restaurants to eat in if you work up an appetite. You can even get gift certificates if you can’t decide what to buy.

And if the funds are tight right now was they are for a lot of us this time of year, there is help for that. Vinton Unlimited sponsored the Holiday Lights punch card this year so you can win free gifts while spending your hard earned money. There is also a 0% Holiday Loan Program at participating Vinton Unlimited merchants. Go to Cedar Valley Bank or Farmers Savings Bank to sign up and then you get the loan at 0% for 6 months. What a great way to spread out your Christmas expense over time with no added cost. That’s a win-win for Vinton.

So before you drive 30 minutes to an hour to fight big crowds and lots of traffic take the time to stroll through a few shops in town you might find what you’re looking for. Or put you next big purchase on the loan program and get a new fridge or snow blower at 0%!

Vinton has so much to offer and unfortunately until it’s gone, you don’t really appreciate what you have. Great merchants, schools, hospital, businesses, church, etc. I could go on and on. Make an effort this year to support your community and everything it has to offer. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.
